Marseille
Discover the Cité Phocéenne from the hotel
Our hotel in downtown Marseille has the great advantage of being very well served. The trams jingle, taking you to the east and the top of the Canebière, the Réformés, the Palais Longchamp..., to the south and the Place Castellane, or to the north and the Port de la Joliette, its docks brought up to date. The metro is just 3 minutes walk from the Noailles police station, offering two lines, putting the rest of the city within easy reach.
But you are so well located that your feet can be enough to launch your first explorations. The Cours Belsunce, in the axis of the triumphal arch of the Porte d'Aix, gives you quick access to the Centre Bourse. Recently renovated, it houses a treasure in its basement: the Musée du Vieux Marseille. Located on the site of the city's first port, this place admirably reconstructs the various stages of development of the city. From Antiquity to the present day, relive, with models and videos, the way in which the first Phocaeans invested the place, before conquering it more widely, notably from the Panier. The Great Plague of 1720 has its place, but also the urban developments towards what is today the Place du Général de Gaulle, towards the Plaine (former Champ de Mars) to the south, Butte des Carmes to the north...
Saint-Jean and Saint-Nicolas, the two forts in the port, the Palais du Pharo (built for the Empress Eugénie who never came), the Bonne-Mère (Notre-Dame de la Garde), the Panier (the oldest district of Marseille) and the inevitable MuCEM are not far away...
